About Canyon Lake Water Level

Canyon Lake is a reservoir on the Guadalupe River in the Texas Hill Country, located in Comal County between New Braunfels and San Marcos. The lake was created by the Canyon Dam, completed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 1964, primarily for flood control and water supply.

At conservation pool level (full pool), Canyon Lake has a surface area of approximately 8,230 acres with about 80 miles of shoreline. The lake is a major recreation destination for the San Antonio and Austin metro areas, drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors annually for boating, swimming, fishing, and camping.

Canyon Lake feeds the Guadalupe River below the dam, which is famous for its year-round tubing and rafting through the scenic Texas Hill Country. The cold, clear water released from the bottom of the dam maintains temperatures ideal for rainbow trout, making the Guadalupe below Canyon Dam one of the southernmost trout fisheries in the U.S.
