About Lake Travis Water Level

Lake Travis is one of the most closely watched bodies of water in Texas, located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country along the Colorado River. Managed by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA), the lake serves as a critical water supply reservoir for the Austin metropolitan area and surrounding communities.

With a full pool elevation of 681 feet above sea level, Lake Travis can hold approximately 1.1 million acre-feet of water at capacity. The lake stretches roughly 64 miles in length and covers about 18,930 acres at full pool, making it one of the largest lakes in the Highland Lakes chain.

Lake Travis water levels fluctuate significantly based on seasonal rainfall, upstream inflows from the Colorado River watershed, and controlled releases by the LCRA. During drought years, the lake has dropped more than 60 feet below full pool, dramatically affecting recreation, property values, and water supply planning.

The lake is a premier destination for boating, swimming, fishing, and water sports. Popular spots include Hippie Hollow, Mansfield Dam Park, Pace Bend Park, and the numerous lakeside restaurants and marinas. Water temperature typically ranges from the mid-50s°F in winter to the upper 80s°F in summer.
